Il 18 marzo si inaugura a Bologna la mostra Street Art. Banksy & Co. – L\u2019arte allo stato urbano<\/em>, promossa da Genus Bononiae, con il sostegno della Fondazione Carisbo. Tra le opere esposte ce ne saranno alcune staccate dai muri della citt\u00e0, con l\u2019obiettivo dichiarato di \u00absalvarle dalla demolizione e preservarle dall\u2019ingiuria del tempo\u00bb, trasformandole in pezzi da museo.<\/p>\n

Il patron<\/em> del progetto \u00e8 Fabio Roversi Monaco<\/strong>, gi\u00e0 membro della loggia massonica Zamboni \u2013 De Rolandis, magnifico rettore dell’universit\u00e0 dal 1985 al 2000, ex-presidente di Bologna Fiere e di Fondazione Carisbo, tuttora alla guida di Banca Imi, Accademia di Belle Arti e Genus Bononiae \u2013 Musei della Citt\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Il nome di Roversi Monaco, pi\u00f9 di ogni altro nella storia recente di Bologna,\u00a0evoca la congiuntura di\u00a0potere, denaro e istituzioni,\u00a0con la repressione che li accompagna. Ai tempi delle celebrazioni per il Nono Centenario dell’Ateneo cittadino rifiut\u00f2 qualunque dialogo con gli studenti che protestavano per i costi della festa. Alla cerimonia di inaugurazione, nell’aula magna di Santa Lucia, la polizia tenne i contestatori fuori dalla porta. Il gran gal\u00e0 si concluse con 21 denunce a carico dei manifestanti. Era il 1987. Tre anni dopo, per le occupazioni della Pantera contro la Legge Ruberti che apriva l’universit\u00e0 ai finanziamenti privati, le denunce furono 127.<\/p>\n

Niente di strano, allora, nel vedere Roversi Monaco dietro l’arroganza piaciona di curatori, restauratori e addetti alla cultura, che con il pretesto dell\u2019amore per l\u2019arte di strada trovano un’occasione di carriera, mettendo a profitto l’opera altrui.<\/p>\n

Non stupisce che ci sia l’ex-presidente della pi\u00f9 potente Fondazione bancaria cittadina dietro l’ennesima privatizzazione di un pezzo di citt\u00e0. Questa mostra sdogana e imbelletta l’accaparramento dei disegni degli street artist, con grande gioia dei collezionisti senza scrupoli e dei commercianti di opere rubate alle strade.<\/p>\n

Non stupisce che sia l’amico del centrodestra e del centrosinistra a pretendere di ricomporre le contraddizioni di una citt\u00e0 che da un lato criminalizza i graffiti, processa writer sedicenni, invoca il decoro urbano, mentre dall’altra si autocelebra come culla della street art e pretende di recuperarla per il mercato dell’arte.<\/p>\n

Non importa se le opere staccate a Bologna sono due o cinquanta; se i muri che le ospitavano erano nascosti dentro fabbriche in demolizione oppure in bella vista nella periferia Nord. Non importa nemmeno indagare il grottesco paradosso rappresentato dall’arte di strada dentro un museo. La mostra Street Art. Banksy & Co.<\/em>\u00a0\u00e8 il simbolo di una concezione della citt\u00e0 che va combattuta, basata sull’accumulazione privata e sulla trasformazione della vita e della creativit\u00e0 di tutti a vantaggio di\u00a0pochi.<\/p>\n

Dopo aver denunciato\u00a0e stigmatizzato graffiti e disegni come vandalismo, dopo avere oppresso le culture giovanili che li hanno prodotti, dopo avere sgomberato i\u00a0luoghi che sono stati laboratorio per quegli artisti, ora i poteri forti della citt\u00e0 vogliono diventare i salvatori della street art.<\/p>\n

Tutto questo meritava una risposta.<\/p>\n

La risposta \u00e8 giunta la scorsa notte e prosegue nella giornata di oggi, durante la quale uno degli artisti che figura suo malgrado nel cartellone della mostra risponde per le strade della citt\u00e0 a ci\u00f2 che si prepara nelle stanze di Palazzo Pepoli.<\/p>\n

Blu cancella i pezzi dipinti a Bologna nel corso di quasi vent\u2019anni.<\/p>\n

Di fronte alla tracotanza da landlord<\/em>, o da governatore coloniale, di chi si sente libero di prendere perfino i disegni dai muri, non resta che fare sparire i disegni. Agire per sottrazione, rendere impossibile l’accaparramento.<\/p>\n

A dare una mano a Blu ci sono gli occupanti di due centri sociali \u2013 XM24<\/a><\/strong> e Crash<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 che non a caso si trovano lungo la direttrice del canale Navile, l\u00e0 dove ogni forma di partecipazione reale \u00e8 morta sotto il peso di fallimentari progetti edilizi di riqualificazione e di strumentali emergenze come quelle contro i campi nomadi.<\/p>\n

Questo atto lo compiono coloro che non accettano l’ennesima sottrazione di un bene collettivo allo spazio pubblico, l’ennesima recinzione e un biglietto da pagare.<\/p>\n

Lo compiono coloro che non sono disposti a cedere il proprio lavoro ai potenti di sempre in cambio di un posto nel salotto buono della citt\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Lo compiono coloro che hanno chiara la differenza tra chi detiene denaro, cariche e potere, e chi mette in campo creativit\u00e0 e ingegno.<\/p>\n

Lo compiono coloro che ancora sanno distinguere la via giusta da quella facile.<\/p>\n

On March 18th an exhibition called Street Art: Banksy & Co. – L\u2019Arte allo Stato Urbano<\/em> will open in Bologna, Italy. It is promoted by Genus Bononiae, a cultural output of Fondazione Carisbo, ie the most important bank foundation in town.<\/p>\n

Some of the exhibited works of art come directly off the streets of Bologna. They have been removed from walls with the stated purpose of \u00absalvaging them from demolition and preserving them from the injuries of time\u00bb, which means turning them into museum pieces.<\/p>\n

The patron of this project is Fabio Roversi Monaco<\/strong>, a former member of the Zamboni \u2013 De Rolandis masonic lodge and former Rector of the Universit\u00e0 di Bologna from 1985 to 2000, as well as former president of Bologna Fiere and Fondazione Carisbo. Currently Roversi Monaco is the president of Banca Imi, president of the Accademia di Belle Arti and president of Genus Bononiae.<\/p>\n

More than any other in Bologna’s recent history, Roversi Monaco’s name evokes\u00a0power, money, politics\u2026 and the ensuing repressive policies. When the university celebrated its Ninth Centenary, he refused all dialogue with the students who protested the high costs of the grand gala. During the inaugural ceremony, the police kept protesters out of the hall. The event ended up with 21 demonstrators indicted. That was in 1987. Three years later, when students occupied the university to protest a law which opened up the gates for private investors, 127 students were charged and taken to court for several alleged offences.<\/p>\n

Thus, it is not surprising to see Roversi Monaco backing those curators, conservators and promoters who, heralding their love for street art, found a good opportunity for their careers and now are using\u00a0the work of other people with patronising arrogance.<\/p>\n

It isn’t surprising, either, to see the former president of the most powerful bank foundation in town promoting the umpteenth privatisation of more and more pieces of town. This exhibition will embellish and legitimise the hoarding of art taken off the street, which is only going to please unscrupled collectors and merchants.<\/p>\n

It isn’t surprising to see the good friend of both \u201ccentre-left\u201d and \u201ccentre-right\u201d politicians pretending to solve the contradictions of Bologna, a city which on the one hand criminalises graffiti, puts 16-year-old writers on trial, praises \u201curban decorum\u201d, and on the other celebrates herself as the cradle of street art and wants to recuperate it for valorisation on the market.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t matter whether the pieces removed from the walls of Bologna are two or fifty. It doesn’t matter whether those walls were part of condemned buildings or part of the landscape in the northern outskirts of town. It doesn’t even matter that seeing street art exhibited in a museum is paradoxical and grotesque. This \u201cstreet art\u201d exhibition is representative of a model of urban space that we must fight, a model based on private accumulation which commodifies life and creativity for the profits of the usual few people.<\/p>\n

After having denounced and criminalised graffiti\u00a0as vandalism, after having oppressed the youth culture that created them, after having evacuated the places which functioned as laboratories for those artists, now Bologna’s\u00a0powers-that-be pose as the saviours of street art.<\/p>\n

All this deserved a response.<\/p>\n

The response came last night. Indeed, it keeps coming right now. One of the artists who unwillingly features in the exhibition is responding in the streets to what is being prepared in the posh rooms of Palazzo Pepoli.<\/p>\n

Blu is erasing all the murals he painted in Bologna in the past 20 years.<\/p>\n

\"blu<\/a><\/p>\n

We are faced with arrogant landlords who act as colonial governors and think they’re free to take murals off our walls.\u00a0The only thing that’s left to do is make these paintings disappear, to snatch them from those claws, to make hoarding impossible.<\/p>\n

Blu is being helped by the activists of two occupied social centres \u2013 XM24<\/a><\/strong> and Crash<\/a><\/strong>. It isn’t by chance that both places are in the Navile district, an area where \u201ccitizen participation\u201d is dead under the collapsing weight of failed housing projects and travellers’ camps are the subject of fake emergencies.<\/p>\n

The people who take this action don’t accept that yet another shared asset is appropriated, they\u00a0don’t want yet another enclosure and a ticket to buy.<\/p>\n

The people who take this action aren’t willing to give up their work for the benefit of the same old bosses in exchange for a stool in the cosy club.<\/p>\n

The people who take this action can tell the difference between who has money, power and the highest offices, and who deploys creativity and intelligence.<\/p>\n

The people who take this action can still tell what’s right from what’s easy.<\/p>\n
