“Like a summer with a thousand julys” is a line from You Go To My Head, the famous jazz standard first performed by Billie Holiday in 1938. As many of you will remember, our novel Manituana was supposed to come out first in the UK (July) and then in the US (October). Well, it won’t go that way. In order to do things in the best possible manner, Verso Books decided to postpone the British release, so the book will be published in both countries at once. We’re sorry about that, we know you expected Manituana to be available in a few days.
Pretty soon we’ll put more spin-offs and short stories on the website, so that Anglophone readers aren’t left with no WM fiction to read until next autumn. Thanks for your patience.
BTW: we noticed an interesting thing in the Manituana page on Amazon.com. Although the book is yet to be published, someone out there already has a used copy… which you can buy for a thousand bucks. Look, we made a screenshot:
What are you waiting for? It’s a great occasion.

Whoever it is, that decided to price this/a used book, for $1,000 is missing the point of what Wu-Ming (and their readers) stand for – surely? Someone who has not yet grasped the understanding or concept of copyleft.
What we have here is someone who wishes to make a profit…or who really doesn’t wish to sell the book in the first place…At least auction the book, on eBay for instance…
However, the real question is: what are these people selling? The book isn’t in print yet. Are they selling a copy of the galleys? At that price? Most likely it’s just an error, something has gone slightly wrong with the software Amazon uses to track second-hand books.
Someone printed the book in his desk printer? Just kiding :D. Odd really. Anyway, can’t wait to spend some summer nights reading Manituana! And this one I’ll buy for sure! Hope I find a cheaper copy at Amazon :)
Man, how can you spend summer nights reading Manituana if they publish it in October? You mean summer 2010? :-)
António, I presume that, being Portuguese, you can read Spanish quite well. If you don’t want to wait till the Fall for the English version, the novel is already in print in castillan, it came out a few weeks ago… Here some Spanish readers talk about it:

Oh.. I really need to read blog posts more carefully :). It’s been a few years since I’ve read something in Spanish (only technical stuff in university) but maybe I’ll give it a try. Don’t know if I’ll be able to read more complex literature very well though. Maybe it’s a good motive to improve my Spanish :). Thanks!
999 dollars is “only” about 600 pounds. Tempting…
I could be being impatient here, but wouldn’t it have been fairer to move the American date forward instead of the British one back? It can’t take that long to change all the -ise endings to -ize and take out all the ‘u’s in honour can it?
